DADDY'S SONG

      VERSE:
Eight years old, at some kind of party,
bored and alone and having to behave.
As I held back my tears my daddy approached me.
Somehow, he knew, what to do and say.
He lifted me so high, I thought I was flying.
I pleaded, "daddy please, daddy please, pick me up again."
Then I stood on his toes, hey look mom we're dancing.
Daddy please, daddy please, do it again.

      CHORUS:
That was the last time I danced with my daddy.
That was the last time I seem to recall.
That was the last time I danced with my daddy.
It's been awhile since the last time I danced with dad.

      VERSE:
Dressed in white, my husband beside me.
We walked down the aisle, our wedding day.
Dad was so proud and I was so happy.
Later we heard the band leader say.
"Next could we have the bride and her father,
dancing to that famous song, 'Daddy's Little Girl'."
How I hated that song but I was dancing with daddy.
A memory I cherish, more every day.

      CHORUS:
That was the last time I danced with my daddy.
That was the last time I seem to recall.
That was the last time I danced with my daddy.
It's been awhile since the last time I danced with dad.

      VERSE:
[SPOKEN] He was 74 years old and we were at some kind of party.
When I noticed his eyes were in battle with the future,
      armed with just a smile.
As we both held back our tears, my daddy approached me.
And this time, I knew just what to do and say.
[SUNG] So I said to my dad, "c'mon let's dance,
who knows when we'll ever get another chance."
Then I asked him in fun, just for old times sake,
"can I stand on your toes like I did when I was eight?"

      CHORUS:
That was the last time I danced with my daddy.
      [SPOKEN] Truly the last time,
[SUNG] he held me in his arms.
That was the last time I danced with my daddy.
It's been awhile since the last time, I danced with dad.

      LAST CHORUS:
When was the last time you danced with your daddy?
When was the last time he held you in his arms?
When was the last time you danced with your daddy?
If it's been awhile since the last time,
      dance with your dad.
